He returned to the programme between December 2004 and January 2005 as builder's labourer Vince, who took great pleasure in tormenting café proprietor Roy Cropper. Born in Liverpool, he was educated at Wirral Grammar School and graduated with a BA Hons in Performing Arts from Leicester University. As well as working extensively in the industry including at The National Theatre and major UK repertory and touring companies, he continues to work in television and film and has considerable experience in radio drama at the BBC. With a strong reputation as a dramatic composer, he is the current Resident Director and Composer for the award-winning Northern Broadsides Theatre Company. Other on-screen credits include roles in Emmerdale, Casualty, The Bill, The Royal, Blue Murder, Heartbeat, Holby City, The Street, Apparitions, Waterloo Road and Being Eileen. As a director, he has worked on productions including King John/Merry Wives, Vacuum, The Tempest, Accidental Death of an Anarchist, Othello, The Canterbury Tales, 1984, Hamlet, Ballroom Blitz, The Grand Gesture and She Stoops to Conquer. He is married to actress Deborah McAndrew, who appeared on the programme as Angie Freeman between 1990-1993 and 1996-1998.
