Yuan Shao will show his frustration within the fact that no one is brave enough to challenge either Lu Bu or Hua Xiong by stating, "If only Yan Liang or Wen Chou were here!" If Yan Liang is defeated at Guan Du, either a cutscene or dialogue, depending on the game, will show Yan Liang being defeated, and/or Wen Chou screaming to avenge his comrade's death.
- Yan Liang (onyomi: Gan Ryō) is a general under Yuan Shao. In the Romance of the Three Kingdoms novel, he and Wen Chou are portrayed as Yuan Shao's greatest generals. The two are held as priceless warriors, who are demons on the battlefield. Historically, not much is known about him. He placed thirtieth with fans in Gamecity's Shin Sangoku Musou Blast first card promotion poll.
