  • A Neverwinter Nights 2 Persistent World is any hosted module that is not using "as is" campaign modules from the the OC or MOTB. While considered similar to a Multiplayer Online Roleplaying Game (MMORPG) and generally playable 24 hours a day, the number of players is very small in comparison. Many Persistent Worlds are highly customized, each following the vision of their developer, with customized classes, gods, races, encounters, and stories. The majority are in the role playing and story categories, but there are PWs for every style of play.
  • A persistent world (PW) is a virtual world that continues to exist even after a user exits the world, and user-made changes to its state are, to some extent, permanent. The term is frequently used in the definition of the massively multiplayer online games and can be considered synonymous with that class of games.
  • Persistent World is a role-playing based mod set in a "persistent world" map which is larger then standard Mount&Blade: Warband server maps. It features multiple castles and villages for characters to explore. As suggested by the name, maps do not reset and factions tend to come and go when their members log off. Resources such as wood, iron, and animals are placed on the map and eventually regenerate over time, control of these resources can be important economically or militarily as all weapons and armor are constructed with them. Current version is v4.5.
  • A persistent world (PW) is a multiplayer module that runs continuously with plots and events evolving as time passes. They often fit into game type categories like "story", "roleplay", "action", etc. All persistent worlds are run by players of Neverwinter Nights. BioWare was interested in the potential of persistent worlds, but they chose to take Neverwinter Nights in a different direction and never had official plans to develop a persistent world. Instead they provided tools (primarily the Toolset) and saw what their fans would come up with.
  • A persistent world (PW) or persistent player world is a virtual world (often in a fantasy setting and often in online realms) that is used as a setting for a role-playing game. The world is (mostly) always available and world events happen continually.
