Customer Support should also not be confused with moderators; though they do interact with players and provide help, moderators should only be contacted in emergencies regarding safety and security and not account issues. Also, moderators should be called if the problem requires urgent attention, as Customer Support prioritizes its requests.

Customer support via the website is centred on the online support centre, consisting of six areas: Bug report, Account help, Payment support, Safety centre, Technical support and Message centre. Within each section, users are provided with a drop-down of predefined subjects. Selecting these topics redirects the user to a relevant web page with information. A few of these pages offer an button to "Click here to contact us". This button takes the user to a webform where they can send a message to Jagex support. Jagex's own website's contact page gives e-mail addresses for specific purposes, but states, "[Runescape] Customer support questions incorrectly sent to an email address above will be deleted!"

Customer Support characters were named Community Managers on March 8, 2007 by Cipsoft. The main reason for it, was to differ the paid staff on CipSoft from the volunteer workers known as Gamemasters. In the Summer Update 2007, Customer Support members were given a red cape instead of a blue cape in order to distinguish them from Gamemasters. On February 01 2008 a Featured Article about the Customer Support has been released by CipSoft.
