It was founded on August 13, 2011, and is made up primarily of avid fans of the animated television show, My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic. The alliance's membership aims to share friendship and kindness with Planet Bob's inhabitants in the spirit of the show. The alliance's members refer to themselves as Equestrians or bronies, the latter being a general term for those who make up the My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic fanbase. Applicants for the alliance do not necessarily need to have watched the show to be admitted entry, as United Equestria tries to be welcoming to all, be they bronies or not.
