Eller began playing organized hockey with his local club Rødovre SIK. He posted 47 points in 28 games in 2004-05. That season, he made his first appearance with the senior club, posting a hat trick and adding an assist. His skills soon attracted the attention of bigger clubs, and he joined Frölunda in 2005. He had a strong showing in the J20 Superelit with 55 points in 39 games. Eller has been a member of the junior Danish National Teams for two seasons now. Eller was traded from the St. Louis Blues, with Ian Schultz, to the Montreal Canadiens in exchange for Jaroslav Halák. On January 4, 2012 Eller recorded his first career NHL hat trick recording 4 goals, including a spin-a-rama penalty shot goal, and an assist. The play was voted play of the year on canadiens.nhl.com by fans, defeating 3 time champion and fan favourite Carey Price. In 2010 he married his longtime girlfriend Julie. His younger brother Mads Eller (eligible for the 2013 NHL draft) is apart of the Danish Mens U-20 hockey team.
