| abstract | - The Pius Dea cult, based upon the worship of a monotheistic female deity called the Goddess, originally flourished millennia before the rise of Palpatine's Galactic Empire, and from 11,987 BBY to 10,966 BBY, Pius Dea leaders, under the Constipex dynasty of Supreme Chancellors, ruled the Galactic Republic as a galactic theocracy. After the fall of the Constipex-led theocrats, Pius Dea and the worship of it's Goddess survived in scattered remnants across the galaxy of Galactic Prime. Often, Pius Dea elements ended up in the Church of the Force-God, and the Force itself was identified with the Pius Dea Goddess. During the Clone Wars, the Pius Dea subsect of the Church of the Force-God reasserted itself as an independent religion separate from faith in the so-called Force-God, and Pius Da leaders and followers supported the Grand Army of the Republic in it's war against the Confederacy of Independent Systems. After the Separatists were defeated and the Old Republic transformed into Palpatine's Empire in 19 BBY, the new Emperor proclaimed the Pius Dea sect and it's worship of the Goddess the official faith of the Galactic Empire. Palpatine hoped to divert Imperial citizens from support of the Jedi and belief in the Force. With the rise of the Rebel Alliance in 2 BBY, the Pius Dea leaders proclaimed that the Rebels were acting against the divine will of the Goddess. After the defeat of the Empire in 4 ABY, the Pius Dea religion divided into two sects: one that was pro-Imperial and another that sought to steer a more non-political course during the rise of the New Republic. When the Imperial Remnant and the Galactic Alliance (the reformed version of the New Republic) fought against the Yuuzhan Vong invaders from 26 ABY until 29 ABY, both sects of the Pius Dea reunited and declared that fighting the Yuuzhan Vong was the will of the Goddess. A synod of Pius Dea leaders meeting on Coruscant in 35 ABY declared that the Force was essentially same deity as their Goddess. During the Second Galactic Civil War from 40 ABY to 41 ABY, the Pius Dea leadership tried very hard to promote peace talks and a ceasefire. After the end of the Second Galactic Civil War, the Pius Dea faith became the official religion of the New Empire (the continuation of the Imperial Remnant) under the Fel Dynasty, although religious freedom for non-Pius Dea faiths was retained under Imperial law. In 50 ABY, the Pius Dea religion officially merged with the Church of the Force-God under the banner of the Pius Dea label and worship of the Goddess.

The era of their rule was characterized by the Pius Dea Crusades: a series of over thirty bloody wars against alien species and suspected alien sympathizers. The religion was effectively destroyed by the Bureau of Ships and Services, the Jedi Order, and the Republic Navy in the year 10,966 BBY, with Jedi Grand Master Biel Ductavis assuming the role of Supreme Chancellor after the ousting of Contispex XIX.
