  • The Hundred was a powerful group within the ranks of the Romulan Star Empire that consisted of an assembly of influential Romulan families as well as clans. They effectively controlled the populace by way of economic and governmental means. Each of its members were capable of calling a summit where they met at a summitin a great hall that held no name as it was intended to secure secrecy with its details being a closely guarded secret by clan elders who passed on the information to the younger generations when it was only needed. A gatekeeper stood watch during meetings and sealed the stone door slab during their gatherings. Members often did not wear expensive or regal clothing that showed their station though they dressed themselves in a manner that allowed casual observers to identify them as individuals of the five-score families whose wealth and power controlled the Empire for millennia. Its membership was capable of reaching up to five hundred individuals though for a majority of assemblies, the clans sent either one or two representatives that acted in their best interests though this number at times increased to four or five. The membership of the Hundred ranged from influential civilians to powerful military officials with it being believed that none of them supported Donatra when she splintered the Empire by declaring herself Empress of the Imperial Romulan State. During the Borg Invasion of 2381, Proconsul Tomalak called a meeting of the Hundred with the assembly believing that Praetor Tal'Aura had done so in order to validate her decision of allying the Empire with the Federation to combat the Borg Collective's invasion. However, he instead revealed that the Praetor desired the Hundred to help reconstitute the Romulan Senate. The Tzenkethi representative of the Typhon Pact used the Hundred in order to determine who would best replace Tal'Aura and determined that Gell Kamemor was the ideal candidate for the goals of the Tzenkethi Coalition. (DS9 novel: Rough Beasts of Empire) Its not known if The Ten had any relation to the Hundred.
