Barlous enrolled at the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising (FIDM) shortly after arriving in Los Angeles, CA, he developed design and technical skills by working for successful fashion manufacturers such as Karen Kane, Janet Howard, and Arthur Max. He founded his own brand in 1999.
