  • Dust devils are orange/yellow Slayer monsters with four legs and the face of a vacuum. They are relatively harmless and have a decent amount of health, making them an ideal monster for players to train on (Slayer level 65 required). • When using a Dust Devil in your level, remember that the range of its sucking is infinite. So don't assume that you can have the player in one room and the Devil in another, and the player will not be sucked in. Because of this, they can be hard to use in a level design. It's actually always possible to move away from the Dust Devil, no matter how much suction it's applying. It's just a matter of finding the right angle to move at.

In his role of creating diversions, he has a force field that allows him some protection from both the debris that he kicks up and any crossfire in which he gets caught. If the crossfire is too heavy or he is somehow wounded before he can escape, his ability to hide lets him lie low until help arrives. Dust Devil's rotors are what keep him aloft with two main fans for lift, a set of smaller fans in the front and back for propulsion, and side fans for stability. Maneuverability is not a problem for this Autobot. Between the rockets and all the dust, it can be a challenge for some of the best sharpshooters to hit him. In robot mode he is able to exchange his hands for fans to allow him to create cover in other situations.

  • A dust devil is a strong, well-formed, and relatively long-lived whirlwind, ranging from small (half a meter wide and a few meters tall) to large (over 10 meters wide and over 1000 meters tall). The primary vertical motion is upward. Dust devils are usually harmless, but rare ones can grow large enough to threaten both people and property. They are comparable to tornadoes in that both are a weather phenomenon of a vertically oriented rotating column of air. Most tornadoes are associated with a larger parent circulation, the mesocyclone on the back of a supercell thunderstorm. Dust devils form as a swirling updraft under sunny conditions during fair weather, rarely coming close to the intensity of a tornado. In the southwestern United States, a dust devil is sometimes called a "dancing devil" or a "sun devil". In Death Valley, California, it may be called a "sand auger" or a "dust whirl". The Navajo refer to them as chiindii, ghosts or spirits of dead Navajos. If a chindi spins clockwise, it is said to be a good spirit; if it spins counterclockwise, it is said to be a bad spirit. Dust devils form when hot air near the surface rises quickly through a small pocket of cooler, low- pressure air above it. If conditions are just right, the air may begin to rotate. As the air rises suddenly, the column of hot air is stretched vertically, causing intensification of the spinning effect by the scientific principle conservation of angular momentum. The secondary flow in the dust devil causes other hot air to speed horizontally inward to the bottom of the newly forming vortex. As more hot air rushes in toward the developing vortex to replace the air that is rising, the spinning effect becomes further intensified and self-sustaining. A dust devil, fully formed, is a funnel-like chimney through which hot air moves, both upwards and in a circle. As the hot air rises, it cools, loses its buoyancy and eventually ceases to rise. As it rises, it displaces air which descends outside the core of the vortex. This cool air returning acts as a balance against the spinning hot-air outer wall and keeps the system stable. Dust devils also occur on Mars and were first photographed by the Viking orbiters in the 1970s. In 1997, the Mars Pathfinder lander detected a dust devil passing over it. Martian dust devils can be up to fifty times as wide and ten times as high as terrestrial dust devils, and large ones may pose a threat to terrestrial technology sent to Mars.

This means the most effective weapons to use on them are dual-wielded drygore maces, the chaotic maul, a superior kyzaj or a Saradomin sword. For players who struggle to kill dust devils without losing a lot of health, there are several methods that can be used to heal without bringing food along. Dust devils commonly drop two ugthanki kebabs at a time, which can be consumed for to heal for 25% of the player's maximum health, up to 1750 life points. The Regenerate ability can be used to heal while out of combat, at the cost of adrenaline; it is recommended to use this when at 100% adrenaline. The Vampyrism aura, scrimshaw or superior scrimshaw of Vampyrism, the off-hand enhanced excalibur sword, the Saradomin godsword or Soul Split ancient curse can all be used to heal as damage is dealt to the dust devils. Guthan's equipment is not recommended for use in the Smoke Dungeon, but can be used on monsters surrounding the dust devils in the Chaos Tunnels, to heal life points. The Bones to Peaches spell can be used to turn the dust devils' 100% bone drop into healing peaches, if unlocked from the Mage Training Arena, or a bunyip Summoning familiar can be used to heal over time. If players choose to use Soul Split, they should forego the use of Bones to Peaches, and should instead use a combination of the bonecrusher and demon horn or split dragontooth necklace Dungeoneering rewards to automatically restore Prayer points as they kill dust devils.

  • Quote: "What good is living if you can't have some fun in life?" Note: Dust Devil has probably caused more Autobots to go get showers than he would care to admit. His usefulness was discovered when one of his accidental dust storms saved some of his teammates. Dust Devil's Hover car mode is jet propelled with small rockets allowing for high speed bursts to get him out of danger. His twin side guns, available in both forms, allow him to fire while his fans kick up cover for his teammates. Dust Devil's rotors are what keep him aloft with two main fans for lift, a set of smaller fans in the front and back for propulsion, and side fans for stability. Maneuverability is not a problem for this Autobot.

  • Dust devils use Ranged attacks to fight, and a Slayer level of at least 65 is required in order to kill them. They are capable of draining a player's combat stats to 1, lowering Prayer and Summoning points to nothing, and dealing rapid hits of 350 damage. In addition to this, their Smoke Dungeon habitat also deals rapid damage to unprotected players. To prevent this, it is mandatory to wear protective face gear; a face mask, masked earmuffs, any slayer helm variant, a mask of Dust, or the helm of Devilry. Any of these will block both the environmental and the dust devil's stat-lowering attacks, meaning that only Ranged damage will be dealt. Dust devils are weak to crush weapons. This means the most effective weapons to use on them are dual-wielded drygore maces, the chaotic maul, a superior kyzaj or a Saradomin sword. For players who struggle to kill dust devils without losing a lot of health, there are several methods that can be used to heal without bringing food along. Dust devils drop one or two ugthanki kebabs at a time, which can be consumed for a random amount of healing.
