  • Gigantoraptor is a very large pointable animal introduced in the March 8, 2013 Android update of Carnivores: Dinosaur Hunter. As its name suggests, Gigantoraptor is a gigantic, dangerous dinosaur. It is (visually) as tall or even taller than the Tyrannosaurus Rex, and is just as aggressive. Despite its massive size, Gigantoraptor is a very lightweight dinosaur, barely exceeding one tonne. Despite their size and lightweight bodies, they have incredible speed and can cover good distance in stride, making escape very difficult once the hunter has been compromised. Like the Tyrannosaurus, Gigantoraptor does not flee when it hears gunshots, but instead charges the hunter, giving the hunter very limited time to bring it down. Also like Tyrannosaurus, Gigantoraptor is relentless in attack, never
  • Since 2001, in a quarry at Saihangaobi, in Sonid Zuoqi, numerous remains of the sauropod Sonidosaurus have been uncovered. In April 2005 Chinese paleontologist Xu Xing was asked to reenact the discovery of Sonidosaurus for a Japanese documentary. Xu obliged them by digging out a thighbone. As he wiped the bone clean, he suddenly realized it was not from a sauropod, but from an unidentifiable theropod in the size class of Albertosaurus. He then stopped the filming to secure the serendipitous find. This way, the discovery of the Gigantoraptor holotype fossil was documented on film.

Its remains were found in central China; specifically the Erlian basin along the border of the Gobi desert. It was found by Xing Xu of the Beijing institute of paleontology. Carbon dating found that it lived in the late Cretaceous about 70 mya, during this time the Gobi desert was a mix of tropical savannah and tropical desert; similar weather patterns and environments can be found in central African countries this is the type of environments that Gigantoraptor would have

Like the Tyrannosaurus, Gigantoraptor does not flee when it hears gunshots, but instead charges the hunter, giving the hunter very limited time to bring it down. Also like Tyrannosaurus, Gigantoraptor is relentless in attack, never losing sight of the hunter and will continue to chase him across the island, even if he uses "relocate" to get away from one. Because of their acute senses, spawning in an area with a Gigantoraptor close by is often fatal. Like the smaller predators of FMM UV-32, Gigantoraptor actually leaps onto its target when attacking. These traits make Gigantoraptor an incredibly fearsome dinosaur to hunt.

  • The aptly named Gigantoraptor erlianensis (“Gigantic thief from the Erlian basin”) Gigantoraptor is the largest oviraptorosaurid discovered. Its remains were found in central China; specifically the Erlian basin along the border of the Gobi desert. It was found by Xing Xu of the Beijing institute of paleontology. Carbon dating found that it lived in the late Cretaceous about 70 mya, during this time the Gobi desert was a mix of tropical savannah and tropical desert; similar weather patterns and environments can be found in central African countries this is the type of environments that Gigantoraptor would have been exposed to. Gigantoraptor is the largest beaked theropod so far; and unlike most large theropods it had much ganglier and thin limbs. It is thought that along with other advanced coelurosaurs, the Tyrannoraptorans (Tyrannosauroidea, Coeluridae, Ornithomimosauria, Alvarezsauroidea, Therizinosauria, Oviraptorosauria (its' own group), Deinonychosauria, and Avialae), it had a large portion of its body covered with feathers used for display. It is unknown exactly what it would eat, but most people assume that it would have a diet consisting of fruit, unfertilized eggs, and plants. The specimen that was found was only eleven years of age; it is most likely that this life forms adult stage was much larger. At first when it was discovered by Xing Xu it was mistakenly classified it as a tyrannosaur. It is thought that its closest relatives was Caudipteryx. Several Gigantoraptor fossils have been found on top of nests, which showed that these dinosaurs sat on the nest to protect the egg. This is similar to modern day birds.

In 2007 the type species Gigantoraptor erlianensis was named and described by Xu, Tan Qingwei, Wang Jianmin, Zhao Xijin and Tan Lin. The generic name is derived from Latin gigas, gigantis, "giant" and raptor, "seizer". The specific name refers to the Erlian Basin.[1] The only known type specimen, LH V0011, was found in layers dating to the Campanian-Maastrichtian, about seventy million years old. It consists of is the incomplete and disassociated remains of a single subadult individual, a partial skeleton lacking the cranium but including the lower jaw, a single neck vertebra, most of the back and tail and the majority of the frontlimb and hindlimb elements.
