Chosen by the Tampa Bay Lightning in the 1992 NHL Expansion Draft, he became a regular with the new team. He never saw the minors again. He was traded to the Washington Capitals in 1994 and stayed there for over eight seasons. Reekie played one season for the Chicago Blackhawks in 2001-02 before retiring. In all, Reekie played 902 NHL games, scoring 25 goals and 139 assists. After retiring from active professional play, Reekie became a post-game analyst for the Capitals on Comcast SportsNet.
