  • Born and brought up in the garden city, and completing his education at one of the oldest and most prestigious university's, 18 year old Raghavan Kumar is nothing short of a hero in the making. He rides on both passion and talent, while managing to retain his humility, conduciveness and a most disarming air of bashfulness. He has always been an academically sound student, eager and willing to learn as much as he possibly can. Having schooled at St. Mira's and then St. Josephs, he affirms without hesitation that he is indeed a Josephite at heart and a very proud one at that. Ever since he was a little boy, Raghavan took an immense interest in cricket. He was not just another fanatic crazy about India's second religion: cricket, but he managed to play several tournaments at a state level and one at an International as well. With an air of pride, he adds that he almost made it to the state team. Deciding to try his luck at something else, Raghavan took active participation in football during his pre University schooling and mastered playing the keyboard. Animation is Raghavan's second passion, and despite Bangalore being the IT hub, or even the domain for launching careers in animation and web design, the young youth remains unperturbed and states that before he is about to embark on any new venture or project, he always believes that the job has been done and done successfully by him. Having set his expectations, he finds it easier to work towards his goals. His father a business man, mother a home maker and sister completing her MBA, he is the first of his kith to display streaks of creativity. During the summer of 2012, Raghavan worked with the coordinator of the Social Work Department in designing a hand book. This was his first real project where he could put to use the skills he acquired from his diploma obtained at Arena Animation. People often just glance through hand books and look with interest at the pictures and anything in bold font, failing to realize the work that goes into compiling and designing a book. However, his effort doesn't seem to have been futile and the young lad was honored and congratulated for his hard work and talent, at the inauguration program where the handbook was launched and has several prospects lined up for him this academic year, some which include: designing a handbook for the English department, journals and newsletters for some prominent student associations of the College. He feels blessed to have been presented with such an opportunity, and he owes it all to his senior and Prof. Kiran Jeevan for giving him this platform to both showcase and enlarge his talents. This is only just the beginning and he is happy to note that his parents have been nothing but supportive and urge him to stay committed to his passion and work. Fondly, he remembers the day when he was taken to the Principals office to be acknowledged for his hard work and when he meekly asked to take a photograph with the principal; Father Daniel Fernandez, put aside his work and pen and got up standing next to his proud pupil. Raghavan had tears in his eyes and was so overwhelmed with the response that he regards it to be one of the best and most important days of his life. What makes Raghavan Kumar such a hero and inspiration is that despite the accolades, stability in his academic work, the opportunities and projects come his way he remains one of the meekest, humble and sweetest person. He has what is takes, which is not just sheer talent but the commitment and personality to take him a long way. In two years, this boy will graduate from St. Josephs College, with an aim of putting his best foot forward, being an asset to his College and an inspiration for all other students out there to prove that Eleanor Roosevelt was right when she said that the future belongs to those who believe in the beauty of their dreams.
