  • Vasoconstriction
rdfs:comment
  • Vasoconstriction is the narrowing of a blood vessel due to the contraction of a surrounding muscle. It is a normal physiological response to bleeding, cold, or suddently sitting up. It is also either the therapeutic or a side effect of many pharmaceuticals including antihistamines, decongestants and stimulants. In most cases, vasoconstriction will raise local blood pressure in the affected area.
  • Vasoconstriction was the narrowing of the blood vessels resulting from contraction of the muscular wall of the vessels. In 2371, Julian Bashir flooded Bareil Antos' nervous system with neurogenic radiation in order to revive him. This had the secondary effect of causing a kind of selective vasoconstriction of the arteries, resulting in an inadequate blood flow to Bareil's internal organs. (DS9: "Life Support")
  • The narrowing of blood vessels. Vasoconstriction is the opposite of vasodilation.
