He played for the German National Team at the 1930 World Championship, the 1932 Winter Olympics, and the 1932 European Championship. Herker played for SC Charlottenburg in 1927-28, but then joined SC Brandenburg Berlin and spent the rest of his career with the club. He was inducted into the German Ice Hockey Hall of Fame.
