  • The Goals Against Average (GAA) is a statistics for goaltenders. It is calculated by multiplying the number of goals allowed by the number of minutes in one game, and then dividing this subtotal by the number of minutes the goalie played. It is typically given with a precision of two decimals. Considering the fact that the number of goals allowed depends more of the team playing in front of the goaltender than of the goaltender himself, the save percentage is usually considered a better way to measure a goalie's skill.
