Despite this, the amount of chakra needed for such a performance does scale with the amount of fire converted. Conversely to changing black flames into normal fire, it is also possible to use this technique to upgrade normal fire into the flames of Amaterasu. Unlike the previously noted application, changing standard fire into black flames requires the user to infuse the flames with additional chakra. As such is costs significantly more to upgrade flames than to downgrade them. Therefore, when creating black flames in this manner, the user increases the chakra content of the fire, but keeps the volume of the flames locked. Kazuhide can use Kakōson no Kyōkai in this manner to convert normal fire techniques into makeshift Blaze Release variants. He can also alter the properties of natural fire in the environment, providing him with a multitude of potential applications.
