  • Georg Schultz was a German soldier who served in the Wehrmacht during the aborted World War II and the Race's invasion of Earth in 1942. At the time of the Race's arrival, Schultz was serving as the gunner in Heinrich Jäger's Panzer III during the Battle of Kharkov. Jäger and Schultz were able to destroy a Race landcruiser during their first encounter, the only members of their company to do so, although they had their own tank shot out from under them. Of the crew who survived the loss of the Panzer, only Schultz and Jäger survived the journey across the Ukrainian steppe, arriving at a Ukrainian collective farm, where they met Soviet pilot Ludmila Gorbunova, who flew them to Moscow (not exactly a safe haven for German soldier at that time).

The two were taken into custody by the NKVD, and were interrogated in panzer tactics. They then met with SS officer Otto Skorzeny who recruited Jäger for a joint Soviet-Germany mission to retrieve plutonium from the Race, leaving Schultz behind. With Ludmila's unit in desperate need of mechanics, Schultz went to work for the Soviets. He became infatuated with Ludmila, even going so far as risking his life to save her, when, during a minor mission, Ludmila's plane crashed and she was targeted by Ukrainian Nationalists.
