  • Azariah, which means "whom Jehovah helps," has numerous meanings in the Old Testament, including many priests and Levites mentioned. Some of the specific examples are: * the son of Ethan in the Judah tribe * the son of Johanan, who was a high priest during the reign of Abijah and Asa * the son of Ahimaaz, the high priest who succeeded his grandfather Zadok in the days of Solomon and officiated over the consecration of the temple * a high priest in the reign of Uzziah, who was the king of Judah * a high priest during the time of Hezekiah * the name originally given to Abednego * a prophet who was the son of Oded during the time of Asa, and who led a national reformation.
  • Azariah (meaning the Lord has helped) was one of the three friends of Daniel who was cast into the fiery furnace. He was taken to Babylon with Daniel, Mishael, and Hananiah, by Nebuchadnezzar after the siege of Jerusalem. His name was changed to Abed-Nego (meaning Servant of Nego/Nebo) by the Chaldeans (Babylonians). He entered the king's service with his friends and became one of the wisest men in Babylon.

His name was changed to Abed-Nego (meaning Servant of Nego/Nebo) by the Chaldeans (Babylonians). He entered the king's service with his friends and became one of the wisest men in Babylon. Later, because he would not worship the statue of Nebuchadnezzar, he was thrown into a furnace with his two friends. But they survived by praying to God, and they were not harmed by the fire.
