Synopsis
  • In 1970, a van full of drugged out young people who have just murdered a trucker arrive at the home of Lorelei Smith in Coffin Hill, Massachusetts, knowing that she has a lot of money. One of their number, Karen Bishop, knocks at her door and asks to use the phone, failing to notice the foreboding atmosphere and the smell of death until the others have got their masks on and broken into the house to surround Lorelei. To their surprise, she warns that they should leave while they still can. She attacks their leader, Josiah, mangling his face, and then runs through a wall, to their confusion. Angrily, Josiah commands his followers to find her. Karen finds her way into a darkened crawlspace, following Lorelei, but she is taken offguard, and is captured. Janie and Jack search outside, complaining of how often they find themselves chasing their victims instead of just killing them. Josiah seems to make a lot of mistakes for a man who claims to have prophetic visions. Jack is still convinced of Josiah's genuine abilities, and when he discovers a corpse strung up in the shed out back, he believes Josiah brought them to this place for a reason. Janie, however, is only filled with more doubts. She attempts to leave, but accidentally steps on a long nail outside, piercing through her foot, while overhead, the bodies of two dead children swing from a tree. Karen finds herself tied to a chair in the basement of the house, where Lorelei warns that it's no use trying to escape. Her mother had tried to escape, and wound up dead in a refrigerator. She admits that she knows everything about Karen, and Josaih is not the prophet he seems. He is only a troubled human. Angrily, Josiah interrupts, making his way down the stairs, but Lorelei outmanoeuvres him, bludgeoning him in the back of the head with a hammer. Terrified, Karen claims that she never wanted to be part of Josiah's "family" - and begs not to be killed. Lorelei responds that she doesn't intend to kill her. She just needs a witness. Lorelei murders each of Karen's companions in a ritualistic fashion, promising to untie her when she's done, and instructing her to go to the nearest gas station and call the police; to tell the world what she did in every detail. After completing her task, Lorelei returns to her bedroom, where the Coffin Witch refuses to leave her alone just yet. Within a day, the news is reporting on the murders of the entire Smith family - except for Lorelei - as well as three others. Only Karen remains as witness, and Lorelei is placed in custody.
