| abstract | - According to the Lieutenant, he and John Carpenter had been on board Recon One for 14 years when they arrived back at Earth. (Masters Saga: "Outsiders") Technically, this should mean that the ship was built in 2014, although this is not likely. A likely point of construction would have been closer to 2023, when many other ships (including the SDF-4) were seen to exist. (Robotech II: The Sentinels: Farewell) In 2029, the Lieutenant was part of the Robotech Relief Expedition. The expedition was meant to warn the Earth of the coming threat of the Robotech Masters, and to held fight them off if they were already at the planet. The crew found the planet surrounded by Tirolian Motherships, and attempted to fight them off, contacting United Earth Command at this point. They were unsuccessful, and had to abandon ship in Escape Pods. John Carpenter and the Lieutenant were the last to be off the ship, as they sent the ship hurdling into one of the enemy vessels, destroying both. The pair did reach their own Escape Pod just in time, and landed on Earth, where they were met by Dana Sterling and were escorted to United Earth Command Headquarters. During the ride, Carpenter briefly spoke of his fears of the mission, before being reminded by the Lieutenant that they were not among low-ranking-soldiers. (Masters Saga: "Outsiders")
