  • As far as dealing raw melee damage, Monks are unbeatable after level 6, and once they reach level 8 no other melee class even comes close. The only thing that can match raw damage is a high level mage (like level 125) casting Mind Fist. The Monk also gets free damage points for having high strength. Strength of 16 gives one extra point, 17 gives 2 extra points, and 18 gives 3 extra points of damage. It looks like these are added after the open-handed attacks, but before the additional "hits X times" multiple attacks are processed, so they get multiplied by the lesser of the multipliers.

This table is without the strength bonus, which will be significant at higher levels. Max strength bonus once your Monk hits level 28 and has 18 Strength will be 24. Monsters in Bard's Tale 1 are limited to 255 HP, so after you hit level 32 you will rarely if ever see anything live through one Monk attack.
