  • In late August or early September of the year 2383, the commanding officer of the Vetruvis suffered a fatal brain aneurysm while on the bridge. Command passed to the ship's then first officer, Subcommander Kozik. Following a promotion by Admiral Enellis Vellon, Commander Kozik was officially granted command of the Vetruvis. Around this time, the Vetruvis was supposed to be part of a Typhon Pact military exchange with the Tzenkethi Coalition but, according to the Tzenkethi, it didn't show up with the rest of the detachment. Despite this, the Imperial Fleet did receive daily reports ostensibly from the Vetruvis. However, the reports suddenly ceased—the last one apparently having come from the Lamemda star system—and three days later, Fleet Admiral Devix brought this to Praetor Gell Kamemor's attention fearing rogue action from Kozik and the Vetruvis. Kozik had, in fact, engaged the Vetruvis in extra-legal activities, allying with Denison Morad of the Cardassian True Way, Engineer Keln of the Breen Confederacy, and the Tzenkethi, to obtain Dominion structural integrity field generators and deflector systems in order to create a workable quantum slipstream drive for the True Way and the Typhon Pact. Using an artificial wormhole linked to the Bajoran wormhole generated by Tzenkethi scientists on the asteroid Vir-Akzelen, the Vetruvis travelled into the Gamma Quadrant. Using the Vetruvis's interphase cloaking device, the required technology was stolen from the Dominion world of Bronis II. On the way back to the wormhole in the Idran system, the Vetruvis was intercepted by Odo aboard Jem'Hadar Attack Vessel 971. However, the Dominion vessel was no match for the Romulan warbird and was severely damaged when the Vetruvis attacked it. In the wormhole, the Vetruvis was prevented from returning through to Vir-Akzelen by Captain Benjamin Sisko and the USS Defiant, and then rammed by Vedek Kira Nerys aboard the runabout USS Rubicon, which caused the warbird to explode. The forward hull tumbled through the Tzenkethi wormhole and impacted on Vir-Akzelen, destroying them both. (Typhon Pact novel: Raise the Dawn).
