Right-clicking a set and selecting "Drop" did not disassemble it. Players could right-click the trading post and selected the "Item sets" option to exchange item sets.

The goal of the Trading Post is to buy goods from their original town and sell them to another. Players will have to travel to different towns to gather information to determine the best trade route. To begin the Trading Post, a player must be level 96, purchase a Trade Permission from the market, and use it on their main character. Once the Trade Permission has been activated the player will have 20 hours to buy and sell tradable goods. A Trade Permission grants 100 trade power, in otherwords if a player buys 100 tradable goods then they cannot sell them until the next day, and vice versa. To browse tradable goods select the Trading Post icon in town and select each individual good. You will see the price, town of origin and a number on the top left indicating your trade power. Purchase the goods you find best and travel to another town to sell it. Not all towns will buy your goods so keep track which town contains the good you want to sell. This difficulty was solved by hiring John Wood, an ex-BBC designer who had gone freelance since his work on The Celestial Toymaker. (DWM 242) The Trading Post also hired out its stock of props, a facility of which early Doctor Who designers occasionally availed themselves. It's known, for instance, that Raymond Cusick got the interior spaceship panels and other set dressing for The Rescue from The Trading Post, (REF: The First Doctor Handbook) as well as set dressing for the TARDIS control room in the first serial in 1963. Much later on, in 2013, the same pillar props used to dress the original TARDIS set were hired to be used for the docudrama An Adventure in Space and Time. (DWMSE 43)

Viking merchants are known to have traded Russian slaves at Constantinople for silks and spices, and they brought furs and ivory from far-away Greenland to ports throughout Europe, North Africa and the Middle East. The earliest Viking trading posts were quite primitive settlements, consisting of simple dwellings and warehouses constructed of whatever local material was readily available. Over time many of the posts flourished, becoming important cities in their own rights. For example the Irish capitol of Dublin began its existence as a Viking trading post; and after being captured by the Vikings, the English city of York became a thriving trading center, second in importance only to London."

Only the trading post was able to be used to assemble and disassemble sets, and this could be done an unlimited number of times for free. Right-clicking a set and selecting "Drop" did not disassemble it. Players could right-click the trading post and selected the "Item sets" option to exchange item sets. Players could offer items from the trading post only when trading in a bank, in north-west Varrock, or by Falador Park. Players could access their items for sale on the Trading Post through trades by clicking the desired item for sale in the item bar below the trade windows. The bar had a grey tint and up to six selling items were shown in a horizontal row with the amount for sale on the Trading Post. These items may have been sold in trades one by one or in any amount the player desires. Players may have sold their items on the trading post for any price they desired. World 301 was a popular world for trading items, especially items such as Godswords. The trading post was removed on 25 February 2015 with the release of the Grand Exchange. Any posts that remained in the trading post were transferred to the Grand Exchange as aborted offers.
