The Generation § games are able to communicate with all the Generation VI, Generation V and Generation IV games in the same way that the Generation III games can communicate with the Generation IV games, with players able to transfer Pokémon. Pokémon caught in a Generation III game are able to move forward to Generation V by passing through Generation IV games, through all generations. Sunstone and Moonstone occur a short time after Generation V, and various characters from previous generations re-appear. Obsidian takes place six years after Sunstone and Moonstone.
