After observing his results, Dr. McCoy declared that Evans was "four-oh, 100%, sound of wind and limb." (TOS: "Charlie X" ) In 2269, while inhabiting Kirk's body, Janice Lester used this apparatus. McCoy, unaware of Lester's transferred consciousness, told "Kirk" that his heart would last forever. (TOS: "Turnabout Intruder" ) The term "exercise table" comes from the final draft script of "Charlie X".
