Mrs. Nagumo immediately called 9-1-1 and waited for police to arrive. Two uniformed police officers responded and a patrolman named Pete did a preliminary interview with Mrs. Nagumo. She was then questioned again by Lt. Colin Ferguson when he arrived on the scene. Ferguson thought that it was the work of the South Bay Strangler but waited for forensic confirmation though DNA testing.
