He played junior hockey for the St. Catharines Fincups, Hamilton Fincups, Brantford Alexanders, and Windsor Spitfires from 1976 to 1979. He also played for Canada at the 1977 World Junior Championship. Undrafted by any NHL team, Plantery signed as a free agent with the Winnipeg Jets in 1979 and turned pro with the Tulsa Oilers in 1789-80. In 1980-81 he got his chance with the Jets and played 25 games, scoring a goal and five assists. That was the extent of his NHL career. He played four more seasons in the minors, including a year with Switzerland's HC Gardena in 1983-84. He retired in 1985. Mark Plantery is now President of the Cyclones Amateur Hockey Association in Geneva Illinois.
