Clarke's debut came in 1952, when he finished a career-high 73rd in points. He got off to a good start, recording an 11th place finish at Palm Beach in his first career race. After a disappointing last place (29th) finish at Jacksonville, Clarke closed out the year by returning to Palm Beach and turning in a career-best 9th place finish. Clarke's next race came in 1953, when he competed at Palm Beach yet again. This time, though, Clarke struggled due to an early ignition failure and finished the race a mediocre 18th. Clarke's next race came in 1954, when he yet again competed at Palm Beach. This year, he found a little vindication for the previous year's struggles, piloting his car to a midpack yet respectable 15th place finish. Clarke's final career race, which came in 1955, was yet again at Palm Beach. Starting last (16th) in the tiny field, Clarke ran all but twenty-one laps to close out his career with a solid 12th place run.
