* During the obstacle course, a similar theme to the film Stripes plays. The music to the film was written by Elmer Bernstein. The same theme appears to play in "Hell Comes to Quahog" when Brian and Stewie wreck Superstore USA with a tank, although it is noted in the commentary that is a sound-alike and not a direct copy.
* The instrumental that plays during the Army recruiting video sounds similar to the Def Leppard song "Pour Some Sugar on Me".
* This is the second episode in a row where Brian can be seen sweating through his fur. While running Brian is seen sweating but in "A Hero Sits Next Door" he pointed out he doesn't have sweat glands.

* While in Chris’s room Lois and Peter repeat lines from a Wu-Tang Clan song titled “Bring Da Ruckus” found on Chris’s floor.
* When the Griffins are looking for Marilyn Manson at the Grammys some well-known musicians are seen in the background which include Bob Geldof, Michael Jackson, MC Hammer, Ashlee Simpson, Will Smith, and Sisqó; behind them is a character closely resembling Veronica Lake who appeared in “Model Misbehavior”.
* When the Grammy host announces that Ja Rule wins the Grammy for the biggest posse, Madonna gets jealous because she misunderstood the word “posse.”
* A cutaway gag mentions Gregory Peck where he is driving a car with his children, who are all slightly smaller Gregory Pecks.
* When Stewie and Brian are in Iraq, they each carry an M16A1, however that weapon had already been retired as standard issue before the episode aired, and should've been an M16A4 or M4 Carbine.
* Stewie asks the recruiter if his pistol is the M9 double action. The Beretta M9 is a double action pistol, and is the actual standard issue pistol of the US Army. However, when the recruiter answers yes and unholsters it to show it to Stewie, the actual pistol he pulls out is a Colt 1911, a single action service pistol that was replaced by the M9 as the standard, but still sees wide usage to this day.
* Major Awesome's uniform bears five chevrons. In reality, no U.S. Army rank is denoted by five chevrons.
