The Chicago Blackhawks chose him 75th overall in the 1981 NHL Entry Draft. Pelensky turned pro in 1982-83 with the Springfield Indians. In 1983-84 he played in four games with Chicago, scoring no points. He retired in 1985 after playing for the Milwaukee Admirals.
