abstract
  • Sonic -- dressed for adventure with a backpack, jacket, bundle of rope, and fedora -- looks down upon the Great Rainforest and spies his objective: the Lost Temple of Shazamazon. He admires the rare view of untouched wilderness for a moment before heading towards the temple. As he travels, he thinks of how Nate Morgan agreed to help Mobotropolis transition to Power Ring energy and how the Winged Victory's ring is low on power. Knowing that their ticket home lay inside, Sonic enters the temple. Traps like wall-mounted machine guns and lava pits are triggered as Sonic explores the ancient structure, but he easily makes his way past each one. Meanwhile, a mysterious satellite comes online, locates a target on the surface of Mobius, and sends an activation signal. The signal reaches the temple, where a group of apparently decorative statues are revealed to be Robians in disguise. Sonic finds the Ring of Acorns deep within the ruins, which he carefully replaces with the plane's burnt out ring. Sonic congratulates himself for his easy victory, but soon realizes the temple is home to a giant snake Mutate created during a Forgotten War. The creature attacks, but Sonic skillfully evades it and manages to tie it up in a giant knot. Sonic lets his guard down once again and heads for the temple exit, but the tied up snake begins rolling after him like a massive bowling ball. Seeing the reactivated Robians blocking his escape route ahead, Sonic burrows through the floor to escape, causing the Mutate to crash into the Robians. Emerging outside, Sonic finds himself surrounded by yet more Robians. Elsewhere, Tails asks Nate what was in the temple that he swapped for the Ring of Acorns long ago. Nate explains that the temple formerly housed a Super Emerald, which he used to create the massive cache of Power Rings that Naugus attempted to claim in the Southern Tundra. Sonic arrives and tosses Tails the ring to power the plane, and his urgency is revealed to be caused by the pack of Robians chasing him. Sonic hops aboard, only to spot several small snakes in his seat, whom he promptly throws out. He then asks Nate why they aren't moving faster, and Nate responds that he needs to make a wish. Sonic wishes that their adventure was over and the plane goes rocketing home.
