  • In 2369, the Rakhari criminal Croden used a Ferengi phaser when he went into holosuite one to steal a valuable egg item from a pair of Miradorns, Ah-Kel and Ro-Kel. Constable Odo later mentioned it was curious he had used such a weapon and suggested Quark was behind this. (DS9: "Vortex") In the same year, a group of renegade Borg, led by Lore, utilized similar weapons as implants. (TNG: "Descent" ) In 2374, Quark and some of his gang took Ferengi firearms with them to trade Keevan for Ishka in a prisoner exchange on space station Empok Nor. (DS9: "The Magnificent Ferengi") The next year, Quark took his Ferengi phaser with him to AR-558 to defend himself and his nephew, Nog, from Jem'Hadar. (DS9: "The Siege of AR-558") In "The Magnificent Ferengi" and "The Siege of AR-558", Quark's phaser was represented by the same prop. It was originally designed as a Vulcan weapon (likely for TNG: "Gambit, Part II" ) as mentioned in The Art of Star Trek. For its use as Quark's firearm, the prop was repainted silver to represent a Ferengi weapon, and was later seen as a rebel weapon in the mirror universe in DS9: "The Emperor's New Cloak".
