Using a formula that altered her appearance to make herself look young and beautiful, Hogatha went to Gargamel's house to seduce him into giving her the other earring, which he kindly allowed her to have. However, Hogatha had made her beautiful form too attractive to the point where Gargamel followed her into the forest, so she distracted him by having him go after some wild honey from a bee's nest while she went to the highest point in the Smurf Forest to get good reception. She recited, "Dangling baubles on each lobe, bring me sounds from around the globe"...and with a crackle of static electricity, she instantly heard all the sounds of the world very clearly. Papa Smurf, being one of the few Smurfs who followed Hogatha around the forest and knew what she was after, had all his little Smurfs gather together in the storehouse and be very quiet until he could find a way to outsmart Hogatha. However, Lazy was still left outside sleeping...and his snoring soon was picked up by the magic earrings, allowing Hogatha to home in on the sound's location. Unfortunately for her, Papa Smurf got to Lazy before she did and had Harmony play a bad tune from his horn that made Hogatha run away from the village, and continued to do so since Papa Smurf told him that the earrings can't come off while they're picking up sound. The earrings finally came off when Hogatha dove into the water, as did Gargamel when he was chased by the bees he was trying to get honey from, and were now worn by a fish that was swimming nearby.
