  • The twentieth season of the television series began airing on September 5th, 2016 in the UK and October 21st, 2016 in the US.
  • Together with Season 21, there will be fourteen new 30-minute episodes. There will also be two 1-hour specials that are not considered part of either season: Arthur: D.W. and the Beastly Birthday (May 29, 2017) and Arthur & the Haunted Treehouse (October 2017). 9 Story Media Group will not be animating the show this season. Instead, WGBH has signed an agreement with Oasis Animation. Production began on September 9, 2015. All work has been completed as of December 2016. Christian Distefano is the new voice of D.W., replacing Andrew Dayton. Distefano previously voiced James in Season 18.
  • Structurally, the season retread season 18's formula of including a trilogy of stories bound together by an overarching theme. In this instance, the tripartite tale involved Turlough's attempts to kill the Doctor at the behest of the Black Guardian.
  • Season 20 was the extremely crap continuity heavy series that aired in the same year as a GOAT anniversary special. David Peterson returns as the Six minus Oneth Doctor, along with Sarah Sutton as Nyssa. This season sees the introduction of new companions Turlough (Mark Strickton) and Kamelion (Gerald Flood), as well as the return of Janet Fielding as Tegan... for some reason... I mean, it's not like she even does anything in the stories, or that the stories even benefit from her return... Ah whatever, at least it's not Adric amirite?
  • The twentieth season began airing on September 28, 2008 with "Sex, Pies, and Idiot Scrapes" and ended on May 17, 2009 with "Coming to Homerica". Al Jean is the showrunner of this season and previous seasons since Season 13. The season had officially been confirmed to air by the network in May 2008. The show is now tied with Gunsmoke as the longest running American primetime television series. Voice actor Dan Castellaneta is to be credited as a consulting producer for the first time.

Al Jean is the showrunner of this season and previous seasons since Season 13. The season had officially been confirmed to air by the network in May 2008. The show is now tied with Gunsmoke as the longest running American primetime television series. Production on the season was delayed because of contract negotiations with the six main voice actors, but was resolved and the actors' salary was raised to $400,000 per episode. The delay in production has caused the planned 22 episodes to be shortened to 20. Voice actor Dan Castellaneta is to be credited as a consulting producer for the first time. The Complete Twentieth Season was released on DVD on January 12th, 2010, just a few weeks after the series' 20th anniversary.

This season also featured a ton of people who couldn't write to save their balls... or tits... Leads into The Five Doctors, which technically isn't part of this season but I'll give it a mention here anyways.
