| abstract | - Frostkeep is a sovereign duchy and is thus ruled by a hereditary duke. The Duke of Frostkeep is the ruler of Frostkeep and highest authority of the Frostkeep Guards (also known as the Frost Guard). This position is inherited through the Marlson family, who has generally been decent rulers of the duchy. The responsibilities of the Duke include financial and judicial matters, renting out land and collecting taxes to pay for the town’s defences and upkeep. The Duke traditionally appoints a Guard Captain to take care of the day to day business of the guards, and keeping the peace. The Guard Captain may then promote soldiers to various military positions of command. The Duke usually has one or several advisors, often local priests, wizards or merchants. Hadar Arniman, Castance Brinsen, Dalawir Fearrinsson, and the Masters of the Lex Arcanis were all called to serve as advisors of Duke Deron Marlson.
