(DS9 novel: Fearful Symmetry) Omek and Vekeer had been tracked down by Skrain Dukat who put them to work to find a way to break the genetic code in the Jem'Hadar that made them loyal to the Founders of the Dominion and to find a way to make them loyal to Dukat himself. In 2375, Omek and Vekeer believed they were close to a breakthrough, although they were both killed when a Jem'Hadar test subject broke free. Iliana Ghemor and Shing-kur would later build on Omek and Vekeer's research. (DS9 novel: The Soul Key) In 2377, Elias Vaughn recovered recordings of Omek and Vekeer's experiments and Ro Laren sent images of the pair to Akellen Macet, who confirmed their identities.
