abstract
  • Jiralhanae Chieftain Thietus was a high ranking military commander in the Covenant Empire and its de jure successor, the True Covenant. Following the deaths of the three Hierarchs during the final stages of the Human-Covenant War, the Prophets of Foresight, Obedience and Wisdom were chosen by the High Council to replace them; Loragus was appointed the position of Chieftain of the Jiralhanae. Thietus, however, conspired with Foresight to stage a coup and seize control from the others; the success of this coup earned Thietus Loragus's title and the position of seniormost military officer within the newly-named 'True Covenant'. Thietus went a step further than the plan and ordered his forces to expel the Prophets from the Covenant, as he was fiercely distrustful of them; this would cause a rift between him and Foresight that would culminate in a bitter power struggle. After Foresight recruited many Prophets back into the Covenant and strategically positioned them throughout the Navy, he covertly attempted to gain complete control over the Covenant by assassinations and sabotage against the Brute-dominated Army. Thietus, motivated to overthrow Foresight by his mistrust of Prophets, Foresight's tactic ineptness, his own desire for power and existing control over the True Covenant's Brute Army commanders, staged counter attempts to overthrow the Navy's Prophet commanders using his own Brute forces. When these efforts proved futile by May 2556, Thietus simply killed Foresight himself and assumed control of the True Covenant, now at the helm of the galaxy's largest Covenant remnant faction. By this point however, the True Covenant was in disarray from its vicious internal struggle and, though maintained the majority of its forces, was crippled by internal mistrust and confusion. Thietus himself was finally killed in September 2557 at the Bagheera 5 incident when the Prophet of Obedience, now in control of the Covenant Reborn, gathered the Covenant's fragmented leadership and killed them, seizing command of their forces and reunifying the Covenant into a single entity.
