Further credits as assistant director include the thriller Murder in the First (1995, with Christian Slater, Brad Dourif, and Ben Slack), the romance A Walk in the Clouds (1995), episodes of Sliders (1999-2000), Ally McBeal (1999-2000), For the People (2002), The D.A. (2004), Nip/Tuck (2005), State of Mind (2007), Trust Me (2009), Better Off Ted (2009), Raising Hope (2010), Suburgatory (2011), and The Closer (2005-2011). McWhirter made his directing debut in 2008 with the short film Daryl from OnCar on which he also worked as producer and which featured Bob Clendenin, Michele Scarabelli, and Noon Orsatti. He also directed three episodes of The Closer (2009-2011).
