  • Derek Pollitt (born 1926 in Merthyr Tydfi, died 11th July 2010 in Surrey) appeared in Coronation Street in February 1966 as an Ambulanceman who took an injured Jerry Booth to hospital. The son of a professional actress, he trained at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art before he was called up to the Army in 1944. He appeared in several other television roles including parts in Z Cars, Doctor Who and The Onedin Line but his main interest was in the theatre. He formed the Galleon Theatre company in his native Wales in 1955 as well as later work in another company in Clacton-on-Sea, as well as work for many other provincial companies before he suffered from total blindness some thirteen years before he died, after which he lived in two nursing homes before his death.
