  • Lord Starkiller (Formerly born as Galen Marek) was a human male taken as a secret apprentice by Darth Vader from his father, a Jedi named Kento Marek, on Kashyyyk during the Great Jedi Purge. For years, the Dark Lord trained him, under the codename Starkiller, in dark side arts and to eliminate his enemies, including Jedi who survived Order 66. Marek was told that he would ultimately assist in overthrowing Vader's own Master, Darth Sidious, Emperor of the Galactic Empire. In reality, Vader and Palpatine only planned to use him to root out those who rebelled against the Empire. In 3 BBY he had begun his missions to hunt down the last remaining Jedi.

  • When rebel spies steal plans to the Death Star, Starkiller and his Imperial aids capture the Tantive IV and Princess Leia Organa. The Princess is taken prisoner and the Tantive is destroyed, while Starkiller searches Tatooine for the plans. After landing on Tatooine and killing some scavenging jawas, he is contacted by his master who senses that he has not discovered the plans yet. Starkiller makes his way up to Jabba's Palace. While inside he kills some guards and is contacted by Jabba via intercom. Starkiller meets Jabba the Hutt but then is trapped into the Rancor Pit. He kills the Rancor and escapes. He later reunites with PROXY who later helps Starkiller by using the image of a guard to open a gate. Starkiller gets out of the "garbage room" only to be encountered by Boba Fett. The two fight until Fett shoots his rocket at Starkiller who uses the force to throw the rocket back at the bounty hunter, killing him. He later finds R2-D2 and C-3PO, but has to fight Obi-Wan Kenobi. The first fight ends when Starkiller throws Obi-Wan into the Millennium Falcon's drive units, killing him. He comes back as a spirit almost instantly. But Starkiller's mastery of the dark side serves him well and he vanquishes the ghost, but he does so too late and the droids and the Millennium Falcon escape. He puts a tracking device on the ship before it flies away.

After killing Shaak Ti on Felucia, he returned to the Executor, his Master's flagship, on which Darth Sidious appeared and ordered Vader to kill the apprentice. In apparent submission, Vader telekinetically hurled him through the viewing windows, into open space. Vader secretly recovered his body and had him "resurrected" six months later on the science vessel Empirical, during which time he was known as Subject Zeta. The Dark Lord convinced Starkiller that he had saved him from death against his Master's orders, and gave him a new assignment: to rally an alliance of rebels who would eventually destroy the Empire. After locating key figures, Marek and the rebels met on Corellia where they formed the Corellian Treaty, an accord that created the Alliance to Restore the Republic. However, Vader, along with Imperial forces, raided the meeting, captured the rebels, and revealed to Marek that he had only been used to rally the Empire's enemies. Marek tracked the Dark Lord and the Alliance leaders to the Death Star, a massive superweapon, on which he dueled Darth Vader. In the ensuing duel, Marek managed to land effective blows, eventually hurling the sith lord through the observation deck. Tempted by Darth Sidious to strike down his former master, Marek complied and engaged his former master in one last duel. Though Vader attempted to put up a fight, Marek uses his superior skills in both the force and saber arts to overwhelm him, obtain his lightsaber, and stab him in the front of his armor then back, killing the dark lord. With his revenge complete, Marek lept on the upper platform, where Sidious presents Galen with a chance to become his apprentice by finishing off the wounded Rahm Kota (Who was being electrocuted while Marek & Vader dueled). Marek ignited his saber ready to strike down the defenseless jedi, but instead swung at Palpatine, who easily blocked his attack. Proclaiming that he knew Marek would turn on him, Palpatine shocks him afar, flinging Marek through a window out onto the landing platform as Juno flew the Rogue Shadow down for boarding. Staggering on the ground, Marek saw that Bail and the other Rebel leaders had already been killed. Palpatine Force gripped the Rogue Shadow and hurled it at Marek. Screaming in terror as the massive vessel fell on top of him, Marek was struck silent and saw utter blackness the next moment. Marek later woke up on an operating table in the EmPal SuRecon Center, much like the one Darth Vader rested on during his own transformation while his suit was constructed. He was now wearing his own suit of armor, presumably the only thing keeping him alive. Palpatine stood before him, saying he expected more from the apprentice and thought he could have one day become the greatest Sith in the galaxy. Marek became Palpatine's apprentice, obliged to do the Emperor's bidding just as Vader before him, and screamed in agony as his suit was completed.
