She was homeless. After that she joined an italian gang that controlled flow of money throughout south italy. 11 years, Vitoria was a heartless, demanding gang member. Exorting money from store owners who would not pay, "taking out" people who opposed them. She grew tired of gang life. When captured by local police, she saw an opportunity to free herself.
