  • The Weapons PS was the combat arm of the "Protective Squadron" or PS, an organ of the Rescist Party. The Weapons PS saw action throughout the Super Galactic War and grew from three regiments to a force of over 38 divisions, which served alongside the regular army, but was never formally part of the Republic army. It was Gregor Killist's will that the Weapons PS never be integrated into the Army: they were to remain the armed wing of the Party and were to become an elite police force once the war was over. For this reason, although operational control of the Weapons PS units on the front line was given to the Army's High Command, in all other respects they remained under the auspices of the PS organization headed by Han Sturm, and behind the lines these units were an instrument of political policy enforcement, including the implementation of the Rescist's "Cleansing" of the "Alien scum". Although at first membership in the Weapons PS was open to humans only in accord with the racial policies of the Rescist state, in 240 ABY, Killist authorized the formation of Weapons PS units composed largely or solely of near-human volunteers and conscripts, and by the end of the war ethnic near-humans made up approximately 60% of the Weapons PS. After the war, in the Eriadu Trials, the Weapons PS was condemned as a criminal organization due to its essential connection to the Party and its involvement in war crimes and the genocide attempted by the Rescists upon non-humans in the Republic. As a result, Weapons PS veterans were denied many of the rights afforded to other Republic combat veterans who had served in the army, air force or navy. The exception made was for Weapons PS conscripts sworn in after 243 ABY, who were exempted due to their involuntary servitude. In the 250s and 260s ABY Weapons PS veteran groups successfully fought numerous legal battles in the newly-founded Vassal Republic to overturn the Eriadu ruling and win pension rights for their members.
