  • Born May 29, 1959 in Long Beach California, John was one of Five brothers who grew up in the same house on Stevely Ave and all went to the same elementary, junior high and high school. The five brothers were David (later known as Jeremiah), Terry, Ray, then John and the youngest, Eric. John's Father, David Faavae Tautolo was a lifer in the Navy. He worked with McDonald Douglas till retirement. John's Mother Faamaise Tautolo was a homemaker and "sports taxi" until she suffered a severe stroke in 1969 that left her fully paralyzed. This would change the family forever! As soon as their paralyzed mother was well enough to move back home all the boys pitched in every free moment as caregivers while Dad still worked and they still went to school. Family and Friends helped out when needed but still was all very stressful and overwhelming for Dad and the boys! Although they were angered and frustrated with the caregiving tasks that a trained nurse should be performing the boys helped feed, change and bathe their mother out of love. Soon it became all too much for the boys' father, David. He left his wife and the boys and instructed his oldest son, David Jr, to take over while he would still pay all the bills and provide for them. This was all too devastating for the boys but understandable! Since their mother's stroke and assuming the rolls as parttime caregivers, all five boys continued to maintain normal upbringings and still found time to play sports. Mainly baseball, football and wrestling. David gave up an opportunity to play college football to care for his Mother. The other four brothers went on to play college football and two continued their careers in the NFL. Faamaise Tautolo passed away in 1987. They still maintained a loving relationship with their father David Tautolo until he passed away in 2012. ==High School== Like all his brothers John attended Millikan HS in Long Beach, California. All three years he would play football, wrestle and throw the shot put in track. John's senior year he would earn all-city/all-league both defensively and offensively. He was all CIF and was chosen to play in the annual all star Shrine game which was played in the Rose Bowl. John was considered to be the best d-lineman in the state of California. John eventually chose UCLA over USC. In the end UCLA's 1977 recruiting class was ranked #1 in the nation.
