| abstract | - Helen Weir (born 9th April 1942 in Oxfordshire) was the second actress to play Pat Sugden in Emmerdale Farm, playing the role from 1980 until the character's death in 1986. She took over from Lynn Dalby, who played the character in 1972 and 1974, although the character was known as Ruth Merrick then. Helen has also appeared in Heartbeat, Shoulder to Shoulder and The Boy Who Turned Yellow. Between 1984 and 2000, she was married to Clive Hornby, who played her character's husband Jack Sugden. They had a son, Thomas. She was previously married to Roger Hammond between 1968 and 1975, with whom they had three children.
