  • The Jalari were a species of Near-Hutts that inhabited the planet Carnarl Alpha. According to the Imperial Department of Evolutionary Biology, the Jalari diverged from the Hutt species some 4 million years ago. However both Hutts and Jarlari strongly believed the Jalari were in fact a much younger species. The Jalari that colonized Carnarl Alpha spoke an ancient form of Huttese however when citizens of the Galactic Republic began visiting Carnarl Alpha the Jarlari adopted Galactic Basic as their official language to better fit in with the rest of the galaxy. The youngest generation of Jalari, those born after the Declaration of a New Order, had increasingly adopting the Gungan dialect of Basic much to the disapproval of their elders. It was believed this adoption of "Gungan Gibberish" as the elders called it was an acknowledgement of how powerful the Gungan settlers and their culture on Carnarl Alpha had become in the recent years. The Jalari were smaller than Hutts, lived shorter lives, and were not hermaphroditic. It was because of these reasons that Hutts look down on them, however, the Hutts did not abuse the Jalari as they did other species. Instead they treated them like young children, wishing to monitor, care for and ultimately control the Jalari, much to the unhappiness of the Jalari who, for the most part, sought a more independent lifestyle free from the manipulations of the Hutt clans. Much like the Barabel, the Jalari greatly respected the Jedi. They did not, however, recognize members of the New Jedi Order as real Jedi, believing them to be merely imitators of the supposed true extinct Jedi.
