rdfs:comment
  • Potion of raw chaos is a type of potion in ADOM. When drunk, the PC's accumulated corruption points will increase according to the B/U/C status of the potion — 200 points if blessed, 400 points if uncursed, 1000 points if cursed. Note that (as of v. 1.2.0) the PC's Appearance determines how many points (s)he needs to gain a new corruption.

Desirability
  • While not quite as effective or risk-free for exchanging items as a blessed potion of exchange, they still hold some use for transforming undesirable items like unaligned tracts, ratling pamphlets and useless brass items into more desirable ones. They can also be useful for dealing with monsters that have troublesome abilities, such as cats, lich kings, emperor liches, or the emperor moloch. They have the advantage of being able to be produced in much greater quantities than potions of exchange. Potions of raw chaos can also be used for unequipping troublesome cursed items — such as autocursing , or — as even cursed items are removed from their slot when dipped. Though this can prove useful in an emergency situation, the PC should usually have safer means of uncursing by the time such potions are available. Consult raw chaos polymorphing for advanced uses.

Description
  • Potion of raw chaos is a type of potion in ADOM. When drunk, the PC's accumulated corruption points will increase according to the B/U/C status of the potion — 200 points if blessed, 400 points if uncursed, 1000 points if cursed. Note that the PC's Appearance determines how many points he needs to gain a new corruption. When thrown, potions of raw chaos corrupt monsters. With enough corruption, most monsters will be transformed into either writhing masses of primal chaos or chaos mutants. Rats, large spiders, and lizards are instead transformed into chaos rats, chaos spiders, and chaos lizards, respectively. Monsters with a corrupting melee attack are instead healed. Unique monsters are immune to corruption. Fully corrupting a monster takes 1-6 cursed potions, 2-15 uncursed potions, or 4-27 blessed potions, with the exact number depending on the variety of monster. When an item is dipped in a potion of raw chaos, it can be transformed into another item of the same type depending on the danger level of the current level. However, this poses a problem if the resulting product is the same as the item to be transformed... namely, the potion will explode dealing about 100 damage and corrupting heavily . Note that dipping a scroll of corruption removal in a potion of raw chaos is handled as a different case — both items will explode creating a large fireball , but no corruption occurs. The message for being killed by this is "ripped apart when confronting Order and Chaos ".

Fully corrupting a monster takes 1-6 cursed potions, 2-15 uncursed potions, or 4-27 blessed potions, with the exact number depending on the variety of monster. When an item (or stack of items) is dipped in a potion of raw chaos, it can be transformed into another item (always single even if stack was dipped) of the same type depending on the danger level of the current level. However, this poses a problem if the resulting product is the same as the item (stack) to be transformed... namely, the potion will explode dealing about 100 damage and corrupting heavily (about 5 effects). Note that dipping a scroll of corruption removal in a potion of raw chaos is handled as a different case — both items will explode creating a large fireball (which can be resisted with the appropriate intrinsic), but no corruption occurs. The message for being killed by this is "ripped apart when confronting Order and Chaos ".
