  • Hubert “Hubie” A. Rauterkus, 84, Cecil, passed away on Monday, Jan. 24, 2011, at Shawano. Hubert was born to the late Karl and Mary (Kloewer) Rauterkus on June 8, 1926, in Westphalia, IA. On June 28, 1950, he married Thelma Zimmerman. He then started farming, raising a family in the area and later started hauling bulk milk as the dairy industry started growing. In 1958, he bought his own truck and moved his family to O’Neil, Neb. His business continued to grow until 1966 when he decided to move to Wisconsin with his wife and seven boys and started farming again. After visiting his cousin Al and Mick Blum, he decided Cecil was the place to put his little ranchers to work. Three years of fresh Wisconsin air, they finally had the little girl they wanted and Thelma finally got some help in the house. In 1978, Thelma and Hubert sold their Rolling Hills Farm and built their retirement home. He then started working at Friday Canning Corp. in Gillett working in the field department, retiring in 1996. He really enjoyed his days at Friday Canning and followed into retirement with a large garden he took pride in. Thelma preceded him in death in 1984. Hubert was a proud landowner who loved the outdoors, watching wildlife and deer hunting with family and friends. He is survived by his sons, Edward (Lisa), Iron River, Mich.; Daryl, Green Bay; Dennis (Debbie), Oconto Falls; Thomas (Joyce), Cecil; Richard (Julie), Clintonville; Daniel (Valerie), Cecil; a daughter, Lori (Rob) Hoida, Zachow; a daughter-in-law, Mary Hughes, Pulaski; 19 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. He is further survived by many brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Thelma; an infant son, Duane; a son, Patrick; four brothers, Alfred, Herman, Leonard and Ray; two sisters, Marie and Rita. Hubert was the last of his siblings. Funeral services will be held on Friday, Jan. 28, 2011, at 11 a.m. at St. Martins Catholic Church in Cecil, with Deacon Mike Grzeca officiating. Family and friends may call on Thursday from 4 until 8 p.m. at Zastrow Funeral Home in Cecil and Friday at the church from 9 a.m. until the time of the service.
