  • Chanri-Ha was a lost city in the Himalayas. Dr. Indiana Jones discovered it by accident in 1938. While there, Jones's young guide, Khamal, was mistaken for the local god Zan-Khan, an amalgamation of the city's memories of the two individuals who had conquered the city, Alexander the Great and Genghis Khan. The city's inhabitants nearly killed him, but he was saved by the warlord U Paw's shelling of the city. Dr. Jones was then kidnapped by the warlord. The similarity of Chanri-Ha to Shangri-La, a fictional city originating in the novel Lost Horizon by James Hilton, led Jones to believe that Hilton had in fact discovered this city himself and based his story on it.
