Being one of the Great Old Ones, Yig first appears in The Curse of Yig, acting as a god who sends his minions/children out to punish all who has murdered a snake in the past by either killing them or turning into a snake-like creature such as himself.
- Yig, the Father of Serpents, first appeared in the story The Curse of Yig which was created by Zealia Bishop and almost completely rewritten by H. P. Lovecraft. He is a deity that appears as a serpent man, serpent with bat like wings, or as a giant snake. Although Yig is easy to anger, he is easy to please as well. Yig often sends his serpent minions, the children of Yig, to destroy or transform his enemies. He is associated with the Serpent Men.
- Yig's is tall with light blue skin long tusks and a fit built. Her eye's are two different colours one amber the other is a pale yellow as if it is faded like a scar. She has long dark red hair that's tied into eight braids each knotted at the ends with small animal skulls or claws.

Wenn Menschen zu viel über seinen Kult erfahren oder, falls sie Mitglieder des Kultes sind, aus dem Kult austreten, straft Yig sie mit einer Verwandlung in einen Schlangenmenschen oder er lässt ihre ungeborenen Kinder mutieren, so dass diese zu Schlangenmenschen werden. Oft kündigt sich dies durch Wahnsinn oder den Besuch einer Schlange mit einem sichelförmigen Mal auf dem Kopf an. In seinem Buch Necronomicon - The Wanderings of Alhazred setzt Donald Tyson Yig mit dem Basilisken, der Schlange von Eden und dem Sternbild des Drachen gleich.
